Neil Patrick Harris' Uncoupled Canceled 1 Year After Reviving Show for Season 2

The continuation of the comedy series has been scrapped a year after Showtime picked up the program after its initial cancellation at Netflix

Season 2 of Uncoupled will no longer be moving forward at Showtime.

The continuation of the comedy series, starring Neil Patrick Harris, has been scrapped a year after the network picked up the show following its initial cancellation at Netflix, per Deadline.

PEOPLE has reached out to Showtime for comment.

The second season was slated to begin filming last summer but experienced delays due to the Hollywood strikes. Created by Sex and the City's Darren Star and Modern Family's Jeffrey Richman, the show also starred Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks and Marcia Gay Harden.

The romcom series followed a real estate broker named Michael (Harris) who's thrust back into the New York dating scene after his partner Colin (Tuc Watkins), a hedge fund manager, walks out after 17 years together.

In July 2022, Harris opened up to PEOPLE about taking on a role that offered him the opportunity to explore a life that looked much like his own.

The How I Met Your Mother alum, who has been with his husband David Burtka for 18 years, explained that the notion "of playing a nuanced comedy version of a life that's very similar to my own in certain ways — same location as where I live, same length of relationship that I'm currently in — but now it's totally different" appealed to him.

"How would I, as Neil, in a subtler way, respond to a whole new world?" he asked rhetorically.

For Harris, Uncoupled was about embracing the comedy that all too often walks hand-in-hand with tragedy.

"When I've talked to friends who've watched it, someone said in a really astute way that that's what life is," he said. "You don't have a breakup happen and then it's just sad all the time."

Heartbroken and still pining for his ex in the series, Michael grappled with how the world has changed in almost 20 years, including the creation of dating apps like Grindr.

"David and I started dating, and we never stopped, so, in an interesting way, it's all I've known," he told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

"I didn't come out till later. I didn't really date a bunch of random people," he explained. "I wasn't around during the times of Grindr, swipe left, swipe right, so, I fell head over heels for this dude, and he was into me, and we started living together really quickly, and now we have 11-year-old kids [Harper and Gideon], and we're still going strong."
